The initial doubts of the composer were overcome by the youthful enthusiasm of Lorca and Cerón himself. It was Cerón who, in the fall of 1921, presented the idea to Falla in order for him to sponsor it. The idea of creating a singing café to preserve lost styles gave way, at the suggestion of Miguel Cerón, to holding a cante jondo contest. Falla was concerned about commercialism and flamenco, which he considered a decline of the jondo genre. García Lorca and Manuel de Falla frequently attended Fernando Vílchez's tertulia del Carmen de Alonso Cano, in which cante jondo was frequently discussed.
